Global Food Challenge Workshop Description
For Teachers Grades 9-12

The Global Food Challenge curricula covers basic economic principles and world food system issues. Each of the four units includes hands-on activities, research, analysis, and a written project, and is aligned with Minnesota Academic Standards. The four units are:

Basic Economics of Food Markets
Teaches the basics of supply, demand, and price determination through market simulations.

Economics of World Food Trade
Explores comparative advantage, specialization, and benefits and barriers to trade.

Economics of Food Security
Examines how public policies impact issues of hunger, famine, and nutrition.

Economics of Food Safety
Explores the impact of cost/benefit analysis, risk management, and government regulations on the safety of the food on our tables.
