Houck Scholarship Description
The Minnesota Council on Economic Education is pleased to offer scholarships to
Minnesota K-12 classroom teachers to support the pursuit of education in economics.
The James P. Houck Memorial Fund has been established in memory of a distinguished
economist and friend of economic education. Professor Houck provided leadership
at a critical crossroads in the Minnesota Council's history by providing an academic
home within the University of Minnesota's Department of Applied Economics. Over
his lifetime Professor Houck received numerous professional honors and awards
for his research, teaching and administrative leadership.
Purpose
Scholarships were established to encourage Minnesota K-12 classroom educators to seek additional education in economics.
Selection
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an applicant's interest in taking a course in economics for academic credit. An applicant statement will be used to assess interest (300 word limit).
Amount
Scholarships are $1,000. Scholarships will be provided to recipients upon documentation of completion of an intermediate level economics course entitled, "Applied Macroeconomics: Government and the Economy." This course is offered in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota. June 16 - July 25, 2008 on M, W, F from 9:00-11:15 a.m. The course professor is Claudia Parliament.
