Middle School Geography: Focus on Economics
For Teachers Grades 6-8

Next workshop to be scheduled.

Registration Policy:  Refundable deposit required for all workshops!

Middle School World Geography: Focus on Economics is a middle school curriculum developed by the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) that blends geography and economics. The publication includes nine activity-oriented lessons designed to integrate economics and geography in a meaningful way. The world in which students live is more crowded than ever before, people are more concerned about physical environments, and the global economy is more competitive. Understanding this world requires high levels of competency in economics and geography. The lessons in this curriculum provide an opportunity to develop that competency and think critically about real world problems.

Participants will also receive The Wide World of Trade, an NCEE curriculum that features learning activities to teach about world trade and international finance. Each lesson is a stand-alone unit, so you can pick and choose the lessons that work best for your students. You'll integrate geography, reading, and writing to reinforce the understanding of how trade plays an integral part in your students' lives.

The workshop will provide demonstrations of some of the lessons and each participant will receive both curricula free. The instructor is Curt Anderson, co-author of the World Geography curriculum and Director, Center for Economic Education, University of Minnesota-Duluth.

There is no fee to attend this workshop. Lunch, refreshments, and a $30 stipend are provided. Enrollment is limited to 20. Partial support for this program was provided to the Minnesota Council on Economic Education by the National Council on Economic Education through a grant provided by the United States Department of Education in coordination with the United States Department of State.
