Winning Lesson: Squares and Squiggles Factory

Jeremy lives in Braham and teaches economics to 9th, 11th and 12th grade students. His lesson Squares and Squiggles Factory helps students understand the concept of increasing opportunity cost. In groups of four, the students create two different goods -- “squares” and “squiggles”-- by coloring them in. Each student in the group is given one of four tools, with each tool better suited for producing one good or the other. At the conclusion of the activity the students create a production possibilities curve with the production data collected. The class then discusses the causes of the shape of the curve.”
