High School Economics for Pre-Service Teachers
This new, two-day course is specially designed for pre-service teachers who are working towards a MN licensure in secondary education! Aspiring social studies teachers in Minnesota often find economics the most difficult part of the MTLE tests. It doesn't have to be that way! This course is designed to review the basic principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics and prepare you for the MTLE. In addition, this course will build your confidence in teaching introductory economics, which is one of the most in-demand skills for social studies teachers.
The course will introduce you to the MN academic standards in economics, focusing the first day on microeconomics and the second day on macroeconomics. Although the course is brief, it will include an introduction to strategies for activity-based learning that bring an economics classroom to life.
The course will be taught by MCEE Master Teacher Martha Rush (Mounds View High School) and other MCEE Master Teachers.
Registration for the course is $25 and includes curriculum materials, lunch, and refreshments/snacks.
This course is open to any MN pre-service teacher pursuing licensure in social studies, business, family and consumer science, and agricultural education. You must be currently enrolled in an secondary education program.
