Elementary Economics - Integrate Economics Everywhere!

Grades K-6 | 8:30am-3:00pm | University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus

This two-day workshop for elementary teachers covers the sequence of MN social studies standards in economics and personal finance at the elementary level with matching classroom-ready lessons and activities to teach these concepts. Explore how economic standards can be addressed not only through engaging social studies lessons, but also through integrated language arts, math, and science lessons.

By teaching the elementary economics benchmarks, students learn why we need to make decisions and how our roles as consumers and producers satisfy our needs and wants. Through the demonstration of hands-on lessons, teachers will learn how concepts such as needs and wants, scarcity, trade, costs and benefits, and opportunity cost can help build student’s decision-making skills.
