Viewing Sustainability Through an Economics Lens

Grades 6-12 |8:00am-3:30pm | University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus

This 3-day course will build teachers' skills and knowledge in economics, ethics and ecology and support their implementation of lesson plans that bring sustainability education to their classrooms. We will cover both domestic and international topics including access to clean water, food security and climate change. The course will feature two expert panels comprised of environmental economists from the University of Minnesota and practitioners from corporations such as Xcel Energy whose work has significant environmental implications. The course will be interactive and include ample practice with lessons including a capstone project that showcases students' creativity and agency in creating solutions to our greatest environmental challenges.

  • This course is open to both pre-service and licensed teachers. No fall classroom placement required.

Scholarships (Limited Amount Available)

$80/night for hotel accommodations are available for teachers from high-needs districts who reside outside the 13-county metro area (Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Pierce, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne, St. Croix, Washington, and Wright).  Scholarships are first come first serve and includes night prior to workshop date and night(s) between workshop days if multi-day workshop.  Please register online for full amount and then contact MCEE at 612-625-3727 or to issue your refunded scholarship amount.
