Dr. William (Bill) Bosshardt is a longtime economic educator whose contributions to the field span curriculum development for K–12 teachers, national and state advocacy for economic and financial literacy, and the delivery of professional development workshops on a wide range of topics.
Bill earned his B.A. in economics from the College of St. Thomas and his Ph.D. from Purdue University. In 1995, he became Director of the FAU Center for Economic Education, and he joined the Minnesota Council on Economic Education (MCEE) in May 2026.
Bill led teams that developed the Council for Economic Education’s High School Economics and its Behavioral Economics module, and he has written lessons on current topics such as immigration. He also recently published an article exploring the intersection of economics, art, and history in the Economics behind Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series. His contributions were recognized in 2025 when the National Association of Economic Educators awarded him the Bonnie T. Meszaros Curriculum Leadership Award.
A longstanding advocate for economic and financial literacy requirements, Bill led the team that created the original National Standards in Personal Financial Education and recently led the revision of the National Content Standards in K–12 Economics. The personal finance standards have been adopted by the state of Florida, where Bill also helped develop the personal finance course that is now a high school graduation requirement.
Bill is especially passionate about working directly with K–12 teachers. From elementary-level “Chocolate Economics” to middle school world history to high school civics, he demonstrates how economics and personal finance can be integrated across subjects through engaging, ready-to-teach lessons. By equipping educators with effective tools and strategies, Bill is committed to strengthening the financial capability of all K-12 Minnesota students.
