The Minnesota Council on Economic Education (MCEE) is proud to present the revised and expanded Mathematics and Economics: Grades K-5 curriculum. The Mathematics and Economics Grades K-5 curriculum was developed in response to the growing need for interdisciplinary lessons that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion. All lessons align with the 2021 Social Studies Standards, National Economics Standards, and the Common Core Standards in Mathematics.
The lessons are flexible and can be used in daily instruction, after-school programs, or summer school settings. Teachers are equipped with both the content and pedagogy necessary to effectively teach students using integrative math, economics, and personal finance standards.
Each grade level is organized into three key topics: decision-making, personal finance, and business and production.
Pro tip: Each lesson plan is formatted as a Google Document. One of the advantages of the format is that following the prompt to make copies of lessons, teachers can edit them. The content was created using Google and downloads most easily to Google drives.
MCEE would like to acknowledge the work of the revision team: Rachel Carpenter - St. Paul Public School District, St. Paul, MN, Dr. Cynthia Fitzthum - Director of Economic Education, St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN, Colleen Gray - MCEE Education Director, St. Paul, MN, Dr. Valerie Walker - Professor of Education, Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN, and Lisa Wiener - Raven Stream Elementary School, New Prague, MN
